APR stands for Academic Progress Rate – you may have heard this term in the context of bowl selection. If not enough teams get six wins to fill every available bowl game slot, teams will be selected in order of APR.

APR, or Academic Progress Rate, is a ranking of how well student athletes do in the classroom. This ranking factors in values like academic performance and graduation rate. This calculation is essentially used as a tie break for bowl slots, when necessary. For example, in 2023, Minnesota was invited to the Quick Lane bowl despite only having five wins thanks to an available slot and having the eighth best APR.
