We are avid College Football fanatics, and thus track A LOT of different games. Accordingly, we always want the latest scores (College Football and otherwise) right at our finger tips. Accordingly, iOS widgets are a great way to have all our favorite team’s scores at a glance. So, we figured we’d share some of our favorites with the fans. Here are the Best iOS Widgets for Sports Scores (especially College Football).
Yahoo Sports
Perhaps the most slept on scores widget on the market. Yahoo Sports provides a colorful and informative interface and is available in three different sizes – square, rectangle and large square. Past scores and upcoming games are displayed and you can include from multiple leagues.
CBS Sports
CBS is one of the best scores apps on the market and one of the easiest ways to see scores clearly and legibly across leagues. Their widget design leaves a little to be desired, but the massive selection of teams and leagues as well as ability to select favorites makes it worth an install. You can choose which of your favorite teams to display in each widget, available in a few sizes.
Sports (Apple)
The “new kid on the block”, Apple has seen the opportunity for a best in class sports app and given it a shot. They have slightly less league selections than most scores apps but have on of the best interfaces, obviously built to look and work great on iOS. The best feature is the ability to include a large list of teams on a single widget, especially the large square size, but it’s not the easiest to read.
Sports Alerts
Ball knowers know Sports Alerts. This app from a random developer (Luno Software) has quickly amassed a cult following as the best scores app on iOS. Their widget follows suit, with fantastic ability to customize for leagues or your favorites. You can also filter down to yesterday, today or tomorrow (or a combination). The widget is available in 3 sizes. I’d love to see them polish the interface but by most metrics, this is the best scored widget available on iOS.
theScore
theScore, acquired by PENN Entertainment in 2021, has been one of the leaders in sports scores and reporting for years. Their app lives up to this history with an extremely polished interface and wide variety of teams. The biggest limitation of theScore’s scores app is that it is restricted to one team per widget, and only in two sizes. Thus, I find the best use for this scores app is to put one tile for each of your teams on your Home Screen.
