With ads rolling for the XFL, you may be wondering what exactly the XFL is.
The XFL was a spring football league that most recently kicked off in 2023. However, this iteration of the XFL is the third. The XFL existed two other times – first, in 2000, with comical WWE-like elements. This makes sense as it was owned by Vince McMahon. The second time was in 2020, still owned by Vince McMahon, but more of a serious spring league. This league shutdown due to COVID.
The XFL is known for introducing unique and innovative elements like the Sky Cam, sideline interviews (both in XFL 2000) and 1, 2 and 3 point conversions in lieu of the PAT (from XFL 2020).
The XFL has now merged with the USFL and is part of the UFL, the predominant spring football league.
