USFL Select is your home for news and discussion on the new spring football league, which had its inaugural season in 2022. However, the USFL did exist before that, fielding teams for multiple seasons in the 80s. The new USFL has many teams that were in the original USFL. These teams in the new USFL are the Michigan Panthers, the Philadelphia Stars, the New Jersey Generals, the New Orleans Breakers, the Houston Gamblers, the Tampa Bay Bandits, the Pittsburgh Maulers and the Birmingham Stallions (who won the inaugural season after relaunch) In the second season of the relaunched USFL, the Tampa Bay Bandits are going to become the Memphis Showboats, another team that was in the original USFL.

The USFL (United States Football League) was a professional American football league that played three seasons from 1983 to 1985. It was established as an alternative to the NFL, with a spring-summer schedule, and attempted to compete by signing established NFL players and drafting college stars. The league had 18 teams across the United States, but struggled with financial and organizational problems, leading to its eventual collapse. Despite its brief existence, the USFL was notable for being the first professional football league to have teams in cities without NFL franchises and for launching the careers of several future NFL players.
