Both Southern Miss and Marshall are departing Conference USA for the Sun Belt Conference in 2023

As we approach the 2023 college football season, fans are going to have to acclimate to the new look of conferences following an intensive realignment. One of the prevailing questions is, which conference will win the most games? What if we look at G5 conferences only, who saw the biggest shakeup – the American, the Sun Belt, Conference USA (CUSA), the Mountain West and the Mid-American Conference?

The American Conference lost most of their powerhouses, with Cincinnati, UCF and Houston going to the Big 12, but they got some quality replacements in UAB, Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, UTSA and Rice (well, maybe Rice won’t bring that many additional wins). Poaching these schools also weakens the other G5 conferences on the board, as well.

The American wasn’t the only conference to poach schools from fellow G5 conferences – the Sun Belt upped its power by adding Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss from Conference USA, as well as adding FCS powerhouse James Madison, who may even be the best team of those added.

Sam Houston State and Jacksonville State have jumped up from the FCS to join Conference USA.

Conference USA obviously lost some talent given the above schools departures, but they brought on board Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State and Sam Houston State. While perhaps not at the caliber of the schools they lost to the American, there are some serious up-and-comers on that list (especially those out of the FCS).

The other G5 conferences, the Mountain West and MAC, were generally untouched by conference realignment so far (though there are already whispers of schools departing the MWC for the Pac 12). So, which G5 conference do you think is the best, top to bottom, in 2023? Vote below then share to get more fanbases represented!
